Explore Montenegro

Things to do

From golden beaches to cobblestone towns, Montenegro is the underrated European gem that should be on everyone’s radar. Visit Kotor – presiding over one of the world’s most perfect natural deep-water harbours – at the end of an inland bay that gives any Norwegian fjord a run for its money – Kotor’s cobbled streets, Venetian Republic palazzi, ancient town walls and eponymous fortress are unmissable. The Luštica peninsula – Despite being just 20 minutes from an international airport, the charmingly rural Luštica peninsula was only joined to the mainland by a paved road in the 1970s and since then the pace of development has remained mercifully slow. At night jackals call to each other in the dense maquis beyond the terraced olive groves, while during the day turtles amble across the narrow, winding road that loops around the peninsula, connecting its handful of small hillside hamlets. Montenegro has two main ski resorts, Ski Resort Kolašin 1450 and Ski Resort Savin Kuk, located within the staggering mountains of Bjelasica and Durmitor. While they might not be as captivating as Gstaad or Courchevel, they are a great alternative if you want a pocket-friendly price point and sweeping scenery.

Places to Eat

Montenegro‘s cuisine is Mediterranean, with influences from countries such as Italy and Turkey as well as Balkan countries thanks to its geography. There are two main types of local cuisine in restaurants in Montenegro – seafood on the coast and hearty meat dishes when you travel inland. You’ll find both types on the coast and both have some delicious dishes that you must try while on holiday. In Huma Hotel, you will find Mudra Art Cuisine – One of the best restaurants in Kotor Bay, Mudra Art Cuisine is the ultimate Montenegro fine dining venue where a world-renowned chef creates signature cuisine crafted from locally grown ingredients. Olive, is directly overlooking the island of Sveti Stefan, this beachside venue has contemporary interiors and a delightful outdoor terrace. Superior meat and seafood dishes are matched by faultless service. Konoba More is a gorgeous tavern by the sea at Przno.  It is housed in a beautiful building that’s more than 500 years old with gorgeous architectural features such as the old stone arches.  Grilled fresh fish are among the house specialties.  The fish is caught by the restaurant staff.
