The Mayfair renaissance: how Shepherd Market got its groove back

There’s a quiet transformation happening in Mayfair. Behind its Georgian façades and tucked-away lanes, a new chapter is unfolding – one that blends heritage with a contemporary pulse. Two projects are leading this graceful revival: the Shepherd Market Public Realm Design Study by Context Office and the Carrington Street Public Art Proposal by Acrylicize. Together, they’re reshaping one of London’s most storied corners into something softer, greener, and irresistibly alive.

Shepherd Market

Once the lively heart of the original May Fair, this pocket of cobbled streets has always drawn a certain crowd – artists, wanderers, locals lingering over late lunches. Now, it’s being subtly. The new vision invites more strolling with wider pavements, leafy corners, and a Market Square transformed into a stage for outdoor dining and community moments.

Every paving stone and lamp post has been considered with care – balancing the romance of old London with the rhythm of today. It’s Mayfair as it was always meant to be: elegant, intimate, and effortlessly walkable.

Carrington Street

A few steps away, Carrington Street is quietly becoming Mayfair’s most unexpected gallery. Acrylicize’s Evolving Industry threads the area’s layered past into its pavements and façades – stories told in bronze, light, and texture.

The next chapter

Together, these projects do more than refresh a postcode. They reawaken a sense of place – a reminder that Mayfair’s beauty isn’t just in its architecture, but in its rhythm, its people, its stories.
